Context
When SNCF launched its skills management project, the company was undergoing a major transformation. Shifting from a non-competitive environment to a competitive market, SNCF recognized the need to overhaul its HR processes. This shift highlighted the importance of effective skills management to maintain its competitive edge.
Challenges
SNCF initially faced the challenge of managing skills effectively without precise knowledge of them. This prompted a comprehensive rethinking of its skills and job frameworks. The ambitious goal was to develop a unified platform that integrates all HR processes, including recruitment, training, internal mobility, and employee appraisals. Leveraging AI, SNCF now anticipates future needs and optimizes talent management to remain competitive in a rapidly changing environment.
Results
The results of SNCF's skills management project have been highly promising. Just six months after the launch, 83% of the 153,000 employees had active profiles on the platform, demonstrating strong adoption. On average, each employee declared 16 skills, and the platform received over 30,000 positive feedback responses about the opportunities it offered. These qualitative and quantitative indicators—such as employee satisfaction and a reduced turnover rate—highlight the effectiveness of the new HR processes implemented.
